Mike's Musings: The Anticipation. The Revelation.

The Anticipation. The Revelation.

A young songwriter will hear the recordings of songs in the here and now quite early in their life. They fall from space readily. How can you avoid them? Well, why would you? The appropriate summation of the songs in the world leads as such:

‘Songs are like luminous trails in the breath of space. And from there they fall upon us.”

And we respond in the template of what are essentially threads of human nature. With an almost lucky dose of luck , we are witness to a varied parade of observation and analysis from an addictive joy right through and beyond But all in all a songwriter who has recorded a song of their own in a professional studio with the support of an in- house engineer, producer, supporting studio instrumentalists and the like is poised for a revelation. That is what happens each year in the many many recording sessions undertaken with and because of the songwriting competition-placed songs emerging from the judging of the songs within our Play It Strange competitions. In a collective sense we have Play It Strange providing a platform for the songwriting adventures of a large number of school-aged writers.

It is a vibrant environment and in that multi-layered world there is a forward uptake of empowerment by the songwriter. A force field let’s call it which has a magnificent influence on the student and becomes the driver of the repertoires of recorded tracks that are truly exciting. They are the voices in truth of school students and holds an extraordinary evolution. And there it holds force.

The impact of becoming a finalist in the Play It Strange songwriting competitions is the recording session and when the final recording mix is posted up on sites like Spotify etc, that is when the colour and drive of young writers gains traction and the songwriters have an impact that excites them in a powerful way.

There have been more then twenty years of songwriting competitions. And parallel to the funds that have been secured from philanthropic supporters and donating entities who grant to the Play It Strange trust funds driving our advancements, we see a relevant list of recording sessions come to be. And that’s where the anticipation and excitement springs forth.

In summation. Writing a song and recording it is magic. To repeat the all-encompassing word –

EMPOWERMENT. That is a unique time in the creative life of anybody. Especially in the world of songwriting.
